April 22, 2026—SK Hynix unveiled a massive investment plan to strengthen its artificial intelligence footprint, committing billions to a new chip facility as AI demand accelerates globally.
A $13 Billion Bet on the Future of AI Chips
In a bold move echoing the industry’s accelerating race, SK Hynix announced plans to invest approximately $13 billion to construct a cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication plant. The facility, known as P&T7, will rise in Cheongju’s Heung Deok district, with construction scheduled to begin in April 2026.
The plant will specialize in advanced chip packaging—a pivotal technology that enhances performance and efficiency in high-bandwidth memory, the backbone of modern AI systems.
Racing to Meet Surging AI Demand
The investment highlights the company’s push to capture rising AI demand, especially as a key supplier to Nvidia. It recently began mass production of next-generation memory for Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin AI chip.
Shares slipped 1% after the announcement, though momentum remains strong amid record highs and intensifying competition—proof that bold bets continue to shape its trajectory.
