Step 1 of 4

Your plan

What you can put in now, what you can add each month, and how long you can leave it. The next steps build on these three numbers.

Leave at zero for a one-off investment.

Compounding: monthly · at the end of each month

How this calculator works

You enter what you start with, what you add each month, and how long you plan to stay invested. The calculator grows the starting amount and each contribution at the rate of the scenario you pick, and separates the money you put in from the growth on top.

Interest is compounded monthly, and contributions are treated as arriving at the end of each month — so a contribution earns nothing in the month it is made. This is the conservative convention and the one used throughout.

How compounding works

Compounding is growth earned on growth already earned. Over one year it is barely visible. Over twenty it is usually the largest part of the total, which is why the report separates it from what you contributed.

At 7% a year, money roughly doubles every ten years without a single extra contribution — and every contribution you do make starts its own clock.

How monthly investing works

A monthly contribution buys at whatever the price happens to be that month, which spreads your entry across the market’s ups and downs. Its other effect is arithmetic: contributions made early compound for longer, so the first years of a plan carry more weight than the last.

How trading costs affect returns

Trading on the Saudi Exchange carries a commission of 0.155% of the executed value on each side. Of that, 0.032% is the CMA’s share and carries no VAT; the rest is subject to 15% VAT. Nothing here is charged on the value of your holding — only on trades.

  • Saudi Exchange trading — 0.009%
  • Edaa settlement — 0.005%
  • Edaa safekeeping — 0.001%
  • Muqassa clearing — 0.005%
  • CMA — 0.032%

Because you pay on the way in and again on the way out, a position has to rise slightly before it breaks even. The report states that price for the company you choose.

How dividends work on Tadawul

A dividend is a share of profit paid out to shareholders, usually as a cash amount per share. Saudi listed companies commonly pay semi-annually or quarterly, and the amount is declared each time rather than guaranteed — a company can cut or skip a payment in a weak year. The yield you see quoted is last year’s payout divided by today’s price, so it moves whenever the price moves, and a high yield is often a fallen price rather than a generous payout.

Reinvesting changes the arithmetic more than most people expect: each payout buys more shares, which earn the next payout, so income compounds instead of arriving flat. Whole-share dealing on Tadawul means a payout that is smaller than one share’s price stays as cash until it is large enough to buy one.

Zakat on shares

Zakat on listed shares is commonly calculated one of two ways depending on why the shares are held. Shares bought to trade are usually treated at full market value. Shares held long term are usually treated on the company’s zakatable assets rather than the whole holding, since you are being taxed on your share of the underlying liquid assets, not on the business itself.

The estimate on this page uses the long-term treatment and the ratio published in our configuration, and it is an approximation for planning only. Nisab tracks the gold price and changes through the year. For a ruling on your own holdings, ask a qualified scholar or your zakat authority.

What the risk profile means, and how it is scored

Five questions, each scored one to five. Two measure capacity — how long the money can stay invested and how likely you are to need it early — and three measure willingness, which is how you say you would behave when markets fall. The two are added together.

Frequently asked questions

How is the projected value calculated?

The starting amount grows at the scenario rate you selected, and each monthly contribution grows from the month after it is made. The two are calculated separately so the report can show what you contributed and what the growth added.

When are contributions counted?

At the end of each month, so a contribution earns nothing in the month it arrives. Counting them at the start would produce a slightly higher figure — about 0.7% a year at typical rates — and we use the more conservative convention.

Is this investment advice?

No. It is an educational tool. It does not recommend buying or selling anything, does not assess what is suitable for you, and produces no buy, sell or hold signal.

Where do the scenario rates come from?

They are published assumptions with a stated date, shown beside every scenario. They are illustrations of what a given rate produces, not forecasts of what markets will do.

Are Saudi trading costs included?

They can be. Switching costs on applies the published Tadawul commission of 0.155% per side, with VAT on the portion that is not the CMA’s exempt share. The fee panel itemises every component.

Does the report account for inflation?

The figures are in future money, and the report states how much the published inflation assumption would take off the final value, so you can read it in terms of what it would buy today. A long projection in nominal terms tends to look larger than it really is.

What does my risk profile mean?

It summarises how you answered five questions about time horizon and reaction to losses. It is a description of your stated preferences, not a portfolio recommendation.

How do I get my results?

Enter your plan, then ask for your report. You give your name, country and WhatsApp number, and our team sends the full report — projections, scenarios, trading costs and your risk profile — to you on WhatsApp. Nothing is collected unless you ask for the report.
