Oil Prices Hold Firm as Physical Supply Tightens Despite Ample Global Production

July 26, 2026 – Oil prices remained elevated as traders shifted their attention from headline geopolitical risks to tightening physical crude supplies, with disruptions to key export routes supporting prices despite expectations of adequate global production later this year.

Brent crude traded around $105.70 per barrel, while physical crude grades in several regions climbed to multi-month highs as refiners competed for available cargoes.

Physical Oil Market Signals Stronger Demand

While futures markets continue to react to developments in the Middle East, analysts note that the physical oil market has become the stronger indicator of current conditions.

Supply disruptions linked to the Iran conflict, attacks on shipping routes in the Red Sea, and reduced exports from Kazakhstan have tightened the availability of physical crude, forcing buyers to seek alternative supplies.

As a result, several benchmark crude grades have traded at significant premiums, highlighting stronger demand for immediately available barrels.

Geopolitical Risks Continue to Support Prices

Although no major global supply shortage has emerged, ongoing security concerns around regional shipping lanes continue to add a geopolitical premium to oil prices.

The market remains sensitive to any developments involving the Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea shipping routes, both of which play a critical role in global energy transportation. Any further disruption could increase transportation costs and tighten crude availability even further.

Longer-Term Outlook Still Points to Softer Prices

Despite the recent rally, most energy forecasters continue to expect oil prices to moderate later in the year as additional non-OPEC production enters the market and inventories gradually rebuild.

However, analysts caution that this outlook depends heavily on geopolitical conditions, with prolonged supply disruptions capable of delaying any decline in crude prices.
