Oil prices advanced on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, as the Iran war standoff showed no signs of easing, pushing crude benchmarks higher. The persistent geopolitical strain continues to anchor oil prices in volatile territory.
Iran Standoff Fuels Market Heat, Leading to an Oil Price Rally
On Tuesday oil prices climbed about 1%, extending a multi-day rally as the Iran-war impasse dragged on without resolution. Brent crude futures for June rose $1.41 to $109.64 a barrel, marking a 1.3% gain and the seventh consecutive session of increases after a 2.8% surge previously.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude for June also advanced, adding $1.27 to $97.64 a barrel following a 2.1% rise in the prior session. The oil price upswing underscores how fragile supply expectations have become.
Supply Disruption Keeps Oil Prices Elevated
With negotiations between Washington and Tehran collapsing last week, supply risks intensified. Disruption in the Strait of Hormuz persisted, while six Iranian oil tankers were reportedly forced to turn back amid a blockade.
“Is diplomacy merely a mirage?” as constrained flows rather than demand dominate sentiment. Analysts expect U.S. crude inventories to rise by 300,000 barrels, with official data due Wednesday, keeping oil prices firmly in focus.
