LNG Breakthrough: A Million-Ton Milestone Reached

LNG Canada exports climbed past 1 million metric tons in April, marking a record monthly high, according to LSEG data. The facility, Canada’s first major LNG export terminal and the only one on North America’s West Coast, continues ramping up operations despite a gradual startup phase.

The plant, which began production in June, has shipped 79 cargoes so far. With a nameplate capacity of 14 million metric tons annually, equivalent to roughly 1.16 million tons per month, the latest figures suggest output is approaching designed levels.

Asia Leads Demand—Where are the Shipments Heading?

All LNG Canada exports in April were directed to Asia, with more than half heading to South Korea, while one shipment reached China after a three-week voyage. The region remains the primary growth engine for LNG Canada exports, benefiting from direct Pacific access.
